General
As one might expect, salaries and pocket money vary considerably from family to family (and from country to country). Duties will also vary. Aupairs
Introduction: Aupairs come to this country mainly to learn the English language. They live as a member of an English family, typically for a period of between 6-12 months, but often up to two years.

They are expected to help with general or light domestic duties and the care of children for approximately 25 hours per week. In addition, one could reasonably expect them to baby-sit for 2 evenings per week.

Aupairs are to be regarded as a member of the family, share meals and activities, and join in with family entertainment. They must have their own bedrooms with heating and study facilities. It should be remembered that aupairs do not necessarily have any specific child care experience.

Pocket Money: In return for their help aupairs receive pocket money of not less than £50.00 per week. If a family live more than 5 miles from suitable language school and social facilities, then a petrol allowance or contribution to bus fares would also be expected.

Free Time: Two whole days a week should be completely free. Opportunity to attend language classes and do homework, to make friends and attend cultural/social activities should be given.

Holidays: One week's paid holiday for each completed 26 weeks of residence with the family.

Language Classes: There are colleges in most areas which cater for language students and some language schools have classes of one whole day per week, some have 2 or 3 sessions per week of 2 or 3 hours each, usually scheduled to fit in with collecting children from school, (evening classes may also be available). At the time of considering an aupair, a family should find out about local school facilities and keep up-to-date with fees and travelling costs to inform prospective aupairs.

School Fees: Aupairs are responsible for their own school fees that vary from around £6.00 per hour. This does not include the enrolment fee that is approximately £12.00. Examination fees can be as high as £60 for the Cambridge Examination.

Police Registration: Applicants from non-EEC countries must register at the main police station within 7 days of arrival, taking 2 passport-sized photographs. There is a registration charge.

Medical Treatment: Aupairs can obtain treatment under the National Health Service if they fall ill or have an accident. They are accepted onto the doctor's list at the doctor's discretion and must pay the same charges as are paid in this country, i.e. prescription charges, dental charges and so forth.

Travel Arrangements: Aupairs are responsible for their own travel expenses and should have a return ticket or sufficient funds for their return journey upon arrival. Families should describe the journey from London to their final destination as fully as possible and make definite arrangements for meeting the aupair at an agreed rendezvous and time. It is much safer and more convenient if the family collects the aupair at the Airport/Bus Station.

Notice: An aupair must be given at least 2 weeks notice of the termination of her employment and in return should give a minimum of 2 weeks notice of her intention to resign.

Nannies
Introduction: The demand for quality nannies is growing. More and more women are choosing to combine a career with motherhood, so they would be looking for the best childcare available by seeking a qualified nanny.

Using Jobs In Demand Childcare: Nannies seeking a UK or Ireland appointment can use the services of Jobs In Demand Childcare free of charge. To be represented by us they should be at least 18 years old and have a minimum of two years training with both practical and theoretical experience. This should cover all the necessary childcare skills, including child health, development, basic sociology and first aid. The majority are also qualified to NNEB, BTech or equivalent standard. However, many nannies who do not possess the above qualifications, nonetheless have considerable hands-on experience with references to back up their suitability.

Responsibility: Being a nanny is more than just a job with financial rewards, it is almost a vocation. A nanny will be responsible for the care, development and well being of the children of busy professionals. They will be playing an important part in their lives, and as such the experience gained should be rewarding to both the nanny and the children in their care. The children come first!

Salary: Nannies represented by us should expect a salary of £275 to £325+ per week (possibly more in the London area) depending on experience, qualifications and education, amongst other things. A part-time nanny (e.g. working for a set number of days per week) would expect to be paid a pro-rata amount of the figures stated.

Duties: Nannies should expect all duties to be child-related. They will be responsible for the complete care and welfare of the child, including organising and supervising the child’s social activities, managing the child’s laundry and providing the child with healthy, nutritional food.

Free Time: In general, a live-in nanny should expect 1.5 to 2 days per week free and at least one free weekend per month. Nannies who live-out should expect all weekends free.

Terms of Engagement: It is very important for both the nanny and family to be in no doubt as to what is expected of them. Terms of engagement will be prepared by the family and agreed with the nanny prior to the nanny accepting the position.

We have families throughout the UK seeking nannies of all ages and experience. So why delay? APPLY NOW!

Mother's Helps
Mother’s Helps will live as part of the family. They will also receive full board and lodgings. Wages will vary (typically) between £70-£85 per week (paid weekly). Duties will include all aspects of childcare, ranging from help with getting them dressed, feeding them, babysitting and generally taking care of them whilst the family are working. A Mother’s Help is expected to carry out light household duties and preparation of meals.

Mother’s Helps should expect to receive at least one full day and one half day per week off. Any additional free time would need to be agreed with the family.

The Mother’s Help normally pays for travel to/from the chosen destination. However, in some cases the family is prepared to pay part of the fare.
