Lakitira Village, situated amongst the hills in the south of Kos Island is our client's largest resort Hotel. A 20-minute transfer from Kos airport takes you through the tourist town of Kardamena and a further 3km down rural roads to the resort, set on the shores of the Aegean Sea.
The specialist tennis centre, featuring nine tennis courts, greets you as you enter the hotel grounds. Walk past the tennis bar and the first of two pools (heated and sometimes laned for dedicated swimmers) to the main hotel building and you will find the large reception area, Customer Service desk and Internet facilities. Upstairs is the spacious Mini club with both indoor and outdoor play areas.
Downstairs, the lounge bar with its outside terrace and large TV for sport events and news offers waiter service in the evening for pre-dinner cocktails and after dinner drinks. The main restaurant is situated here serving buffet style breakfast, lunch and dinner and there is a large terrace for dining under the stars. Alternatively head down to the pizza and pasta restaurant for lunch or dinner by the main pool. For a more adult atmosphere, the Greek taverna offers a continental breakfast option and authentic evening meals including meze starters and barbecue meat and fish dishes for those over 12 years of age.
Lakitira Village houses the purpose-built Toddler Club and there is an attractive courtyard with outside seating for the Greek Taverna. Walk from Lakitira Village to the sea and you will come across the children's playground, the sports pitch offering friendly football matches, football coaching for children, basketball and a shaded aerobics area for the keep fit fanatics.
Next to the main pool is the bar where you can sit and enjoy the views across the water to the island of Nissyros and mainland Turkey. The sandy beach here has its own jetty, waterfront, canoes, windsurf boards, sailing dinghies and ski pontoon for children. A stroll through the resort gardens brings you to the bear bar where you can relax whilst others play volleyball, boules, a social game of tennis on the two additional Astroturf courts or participate in the waterfront activities. This second beach, with a boardwalk joining the other beach, offers plenty of sun loungers and shade for all, whether resting from the waterfront activities, or just watching the action.
Light cross-shore winds in the morning offer good conditions for water-skiing and with regular 4+ afternoon winds, Lakitira is an excellent location for more advanced sailors and windsurfers.
The eleven tennis courts cater for all and other activities include scuba diving and snorkelling, lane swimming, full aerobic exercise programme, water polo, volleyball, boules and table tennis.
Kos is one of the Dodecanese islands, lying in the southeastern part of the Aegean. It is a crossroads between east and west, directly opposite the minor Asian coast of Turkey so take a day trip to Bodrum to see the Mausoleum, one of the Seven Wonders of the World.
Kos has enough of its own history and interest to keep you occupied. It is the birthplace of Hippocrates (460BC) recognised as the Father of Medicine. Known as the "Garden of the Aegean" because of its abundant natural beauty, many birds and much wildlife have made their home in Kos. Look out for sea turtles by day and owls by night.
Trips can be arranged around the island visiting all the main towns - Asklepion, Zia, Kefalos - or an evening in Kos Town. The nearby island of Nissyros is steeped in history and myth and famous for its dormant volcano. See inside the crater where the lunar landscape, covered in sulphur deposits, is truly spectacular. Go island hopping to Kalymnos where sponge divers collect and prepare sponges for sale. There are plenty of tavernas, bouzouki, discos and shops in nearby Kardamena.
